Review: Supperland, for New Charlotte Daytime Weddings

Are you getting married in Charlotte and looking for an ideal daytime wedding venue?

If you're thinking of having a Carolina wedding, and you're looking for a unique space, consider Supperland for your daytime wedding. Located in the hip Plaza Midwood neighborhood (if you're from out of town planning a Charlotte destination wedding, they have a prime location of only about a 6-7 minute drive from Uptown), this is already one of Charlotte's top restaurants and evening haunts, but recently they've opened its doors for daytime weddings and other special events.

As a wedding photographer, this is a photographer's playground. I recently had the chance to tour the space and took a few images so my readers can see how its rooms can be used. Now keep in mind, I rarely do write-ups on venues like this, but in my opinion, Supperland is an amazing place that you should definitely strongly consider if you like the idea of having an intimate-sized, formal wedding in the city (but you want an alternative to the hustle and bustle of Uptown). Most importantly? You want great food and drink as the centerpiece, paired with tip-top service.

about supperland

A historic church-turned-restaurant, Supperland is known in the area as the rustic-chic steakhouse that doles out hearty southern dishes, plus cocktails and wine -- but it isn't just a restaurant/cocktail bar anymore.

Trust me, the cocktails aren't going anywhere -- but now, they're also doing daytime weddings. While Supperland hasn't yet hosted a wedding, the space has been used for elegant rehearsal dinners and daytime events.

I'm a bit biased -- let me explain

As they now transition to hosting daytime weddings also, I must share a personal story that makes me a little biased: last Fall, I proposed to my fiancée in epic fashion here.

I chose them because I wanted something different.

And I suggest you do the same.

Now back to the story: me generally not being the romantic type, me going a little over-the-top for this rare occasion felt right to me, and I'm telling you right now -- Supperland met me every step of the way in creating and executing my over-the-top gesture. Even before I had booked it as my proposal location, their management team took great care in coordinating every piece of my event, and day-of, things ran so smoothly.

See, that's what you can expect with Supperland.

(And of course, she said YES! Six months later, she still tells the story of our epic Supperland proposal/engagement -- and I have a feeling sixty years from now, the story will still be just as magical.)

How the spaces can be used

One thing about Supperland is that its spaces are so versatile. Natural light pours in through the huge windows, and the floral accents throughout its rooms give it flair.

And the downstairs speakeasy, with all of its vintage charm, is a tailor made groom getting ready location, as it's located downstairs, with no windows (to see the bride). Not only are the bar offerings top-tier, but the space boasts serious man cave appeal and can comfortably fit upwards of two-dozen people. And while you might initially use the speakeasy as a place to stash the guys so that the groom doesn't see the bride before the big moment, much later in the day after the big reveal, the bride & groom can take stunning portraits with the bar as the backdrop.

The bridal party can get ready in the spacious downstairs wine room around the large kitchen table, which also doubles for private wine and hors d'oeuvres tasting events where guests have a rare view of Supperland chefs preparing their meal in the large glass window behind them. Images taken in the private kitchen table look stunning, as the colored lights create a beautiful ambiance with the wall-length wine bottle display as the backdrop.

Couple's portraits can be taken in the main ceremony space (the restaurant portion), or the back patios which offer scenic greenery and a fenced-in portion that gives the space some intimacy.

What I'm saying is, there are plenty of places to take photographs, and way more than most venues further into Uptown (downtown for you out-of-towners).

Great for those who love culinary + intimate

Supperland boasts a fresh unique value proposition that is sure to speak to the couple who's looking for something a little different.

If you've been looking for culinary delight for your intimate ceremony -- look no further than the bar space.

For those who may have toured Charlotte's more traditional wedding venues and just haven't found something that speaks to who you two are and what you want for your day, consider Supperland.
