5 Awesome Reasons to Hashtag Your Wedding
If you're like most people in 2019, you've probably heard of or maybe even have an Instagram account. You probably spend a good deal of time flipping through the homepage, looking at the beautiful photos, maybe even clicking the like button on a few of mine. Maybe that's even how you found me!
But have you considered using an Instagram hashtag for your own wedding?
Maybe you have, but are for some reason on the fence.
If you are unsure about whether to hashtag your wedding, I'll invite you to consider a few of these quite compelling reasons:
1. It gets your wedding guests engaged with your day.
Hashtagging your wedding will help people to be more deeply entrenched in the experience of enjoying the marriage process with you and your soon-to-be.
2. Those guests that use the hashtag might have taken some awesome shots.
And don't you want to see them?
The reality is, smartphones aren't going anywhere. There are many photographers who feel threatened by the fact that everyone has an iPhone or smart Android, and are deathly afraid that, god forbid, somebody else take a really good photo. But not me!
While there are many good reasons to consider having an unplugged wedding, and mini brides are enforcing this, there are just as many good reasons to allow people to do what they want to with their property their phones.
It is hard to tell people that they can't use their cell phones, although some people do it, but what if they take a really nice picture?
It's at least worth a little thought that perhaps you might get a good series of photos from at least a few people if you were to hashtag your wedding.
3. The creative process of thinking up hashtag names for you two can be fun.
Being recently engaged, and knee deep in wedding planning, I thought about all of the fun things comma including #ideas.
Here on this blog, I often talk about you and your partner need to identify Who You Are, important to you, and what best reflects your identity for your wedding. This case is no different.
Hashtags might very well be!
Number 4. You'll probably get even more photos from me after your full Gallery is delivered.
And quicker.
Number 5. Yet another reason to get a decorative sign made encouraging guests to have fun.
Reason
Your Wedding is Instagrammable!
So if you've decided that hashtags are for you too, then maybe your next thought is, how do I do it? It's pretty simple to just put a number sign in front of a word, really thinking is, how can I use a hashtag for maximum effect with my wedding?
I think the main thing is, choose a hashtag that others are unlikely to choose. You want something very unique, might incorporate your names, or your soon to be shared last name. But you don't have to stop there, and I'd suggest that you don't, actually.
Honestly, the more clever and unique you make it, the more for your Instagram hashtag will be. And isn't that what you wanted the whole time?
Here are some cool fictitious hashtags I made up on the spot that first names, last names, fun venues, dates, wedding themes, colors months, and a variety of other key wedding elements that make mini weddings memorable and unique.
Just a few quick examples:
#jebanddebthisoct // two first names with the month highlighted; add a date if you like
#theflynnssaidIdo // nice way to introduce the world to your soon-to-be-shared last name
#jenbenpinkandbluewedding // why not use your ‘wedding colors + your two first names’ formula as the unique identified for your hashtag?
#cindyandtrevorattheritz // use your two first names, and add your wedding venue to it
#odooleysattheritz // or, as a variation on the last suggestion, do it with your last name
#averymikeshowoutthis2019 // who said you can’t get creative? If the first/last name combo isn’t doing it, use a little color or slang to personalize it to you two
#tinaandtedtietheknot //
#jennandtedsepicshoegame // are you choosing to integrate a fun game into your wedding reception? Why not show it off in your Hashtag?
#margeandroysaididoapril6th // Unique in using the two first names, with a date
And these are just a few I thought in a few minutes. I’m sure that your combined brainpower is much more powerful than my own! After all, aren’t two heads better than one?
